Send your legal documents

Although you have submitted documents to confirm your residency status at the time of application, you are required to send Enrolment Services a number of legal documents, which will vary whether you are a Canadian citizen or a Quebec resident. Sending those documents will ensure that your student legal and tuition fee status are up-to-date.

To learn more on how to proceed, please visit this website: https://www.mcgill.ca/legaldocuments/.

If you have questions concerning the legal documents required by McGill, please visit this website to learn how to reach out to staff members.

The consequence of not providing your documents on time could be that you will be charged higher tuition fees (such as based on an international rate). You can check your legal status in Minerva under: Student Menu>>Student Accounts Menu>>View Tuition and Legal Status.

Set-up your McGill email

Once you have accepted your offer of admission, you will need to set-up your McGill Username and Password and access your McGill email. Email is one of the official means of communication between McGill University and its students.

Complete your immunization and CPR/AED training

Please consult this document for instructions on how to proceed with the review of your immunization documents: PDF icon Immunization Review Process - Instructions

You are required to complete a series of immunizations to participate in clinical activities. You can submit your documents as soon as you receive an offer of admission. The review process is done on a rolling basis by the Student Wellness Hub. Although you have already submitted these documents to the Admissions Office when you applied, you will need to fill out a form on the Student Wellness Hub's website and submit your documents through their portal for final review.

You may be required to have a virtual meeting with a Student Wellness Hub representative if follow-up or additional information is required; please check your McGill email regularly during the weeks before the start of class to promptly follow up on any outstanding issues.

You must provide, by the date indicated on the Dentistry Admissions Agreement Form that you signed, proof that you have received this year's influenza (flu) vaccine as well as at least 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. It is however recommended that you receive (or have received) an additional dose this summer or this fall as long as it has been 3 months since your last Covid vaccine.

You must provide, by January 15th of the year in which you are commencing undergraduate dental education, proof of certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), level C or C+, and automated external defibrillation (AED) training. Certification must be granted, or fully recognised, by one of the following organisations: the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross.

  • online recertification courses for students who have an expired acceptable certification;
  • blended courses (online + in person).

NOTE ► Your certification must be valid for at least the first year of your studies. Students are responsible for maintaining valid certification for the duration of the program.

Learn to be proficient in French

As indicated on the Dentistry Admissions Agreement Form that you signed, you will need to acquire a basic knowledge of French by the time you begin the Clinical Practice courses at the start of the third year of the program. If you are looking to improve your French language skills, here are a few suggested options you can start looking into: https://www.mcgill.ca/dentistry/programs/language-proficiency  (under ‘Prospective Undergraduate Students Basic Knowledge of French’).

Join the McGill Dentistry French Club (MDFC) to practice conversational French in an informal environment. All levels are welcome to join! The MDFC was started by a group of McGill Dentistry students who wanted to help their peers in learning French, as well as improving access to dental care in francophone regions. The Club's mission is to create a collaborative and conducive environment and resources for dentistry students to learn and improve their clinical French skills relevant to dentistry. MDFC hosts events and shares resources such as a french lexicon, videos, and handouts relating to clinical French in a dental care setting. More information about the club can be found on their Facebook page or by contacting mcgilldentfrenchclub [at] gmail.com.

A few last steps before the start of the program

Complete the online Academic Integrity Tutorial

McGill places a high value on academic integrity in all facets of study. We advise you to learn more about this subject at the Student Rights and Responsibilities website: www.mcgill.ca/students/srr. McGill requires all newly admitted students to complete a short tutorial on academic integrity before the beginning of September. This is accessible under the Student Menu on Minerva.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Failure to complete the Tutorial will result in a registration block for the following term. The block is automatically released the moment the Tutorial is completed in Minerva.

Complete the Mandatory Sexual Violence Education Program

All McGill community members - students, staff, and faculty - are required to complete It Takes All of Us: Creating a Campus Community Free of Sexual Violence, a mandatory online learning program that strives to increase awareness of sexual violence, to ensure that our campus culture is based on respect and consent, and to help create a community free of sexual violence. It consists of five modules that use character-driven scenarios to teach important topics surrounding sexual violence and its impact. All staff, faculty, and students complete the same version of the program.

As part of McGill’s Policy Against Sexual Violence, and in accordance with Quebec Law P-22.1, it is important for anyone who studies or works at McGill to have a shared understanding of the key concepts around preventing sexual violence on our campus. Because of the substantial changes made to the program, all members of the McGill community are required to take this updated version of It Takes All of Us.

The program is hosted on myCourses, McGill’s online Learning Management System. To access the program, log in to myCourses using your McGill credentials (i.e., your email and password). If you don’t see the program, make sure you click “View All Courses” and search “It Takes All of Us.”

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who have not completed the program by the applicable deadline will have a hold placed on their account in Minerva, preventing them from registering for their next term; the hold will be removed within 1 business day of completing the program.

Register for courses

Registration is done online. Ms Patricia Bassett, our Student Affairs Officer, will send you all the information you will need a few days after you accept the offer of admission and upload your Dentistry Admissions Agreement Form. There is no need to worry about not getting a seat in a class as the courses are reserved for DMD students only.  Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the information on the transcript is correct.  For assistance, please contact studentaffairs.dentistry [at] mcgill.ca (Ms. Bassett).

Complete the Mandatory Sexual Violence Education Program

Starting this year, all undergraduate and graduate students will be required to complete It Takes All of Us: Creating a Campus Community Free of Sexual Violence, a mandatory online learning program that strives to increase awareness of sexual violence by addressing topics like consent, bystander intervention and supporting survivors.

It Takes All of Us represents one piece of a much larger campus effort to address and prevent sexual violence, and to provide increased support to all those affected. The program’s University-wide roll-out is not only aligned with this commitment to address this critical topic head-on, but also with Quebec’s Bill 151, which stipulates that all Quebec post-secondary institutions implement mandatory training on the topic of sexual violence.

You can access It Takes All of Us—which should take approximately 45 minutes to complete—in myCourses, the University’s online Learning Management System.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The program must be completed by the end of your first term and failure to do so will result in a registration block for the following term. The block is automatically released the moment the program is completed.
