In addition to championing the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas, the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences is committed to implementing a strategic roadmap to further our shared goals of creating a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for all students, staff, faculty, and of course, every member of the Montreal community and beyond that is served by the Faculty's Service to the Community Program. Our strategic roadmap will continue to evolve and be updated as needed.

Creation of the EDI Committee
The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee was formed to lead and support initiatives aimed at creating an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful culture within the Faculty.

Scholarships and Bursaries Supporting EDI in the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences
Planning for an annual budget for scholarships & bursaries supporting students from underrepresented communities, including:
Dr. James P. Lund Fellowship in Dentistry - Established in 2002 by a generous gift from a McGill graduate from Hong Kong. Awarded to an outstanding student who has graduated from a Chinese university and is entering a Post-doctoral, PhD or MSc program of study in the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences.
Ping Kwan Lau Scholarship Established in 1998 by Arthur Lau (B. Arch. 1962) and family in memory of his father, Ping Kwan Lau, for students entering the four-year dentistry program. This Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of high academic achievement, by the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences with preference to international students and will be renewable provided the holder maintains an academic standing established by the Faculty.
Caribbean Entrance Bursary - The entrance bursary will be awarded on the basis of good academic standing and demonstrated financial need to one or more students entering the Dental Preparatory program, the first year of which is administered by the Faculty of Science. Remaining funds may be awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty DMD program. In either instance, preference will be given to students from underrepresented communities.

Creation of a collection of pertinent research articles, resources, and materials to guide the implementation of EDI in research, teaching, and student life.

Initiating a series of seminars that explore the concepts of anti-racism, Black Lives Matter, and other topics related to equity as part of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences' ongoing research seminar series.

Establish admission pathways for Indigenous students and Black students in our DMD and DENT-P programs.

Strategic Roadmap
- Regular consultations with students and Faculty members
- Supporting the establishment of a group for students that advocate for EDI principles, Black Lives Matter, support for Indigenous initiatives, and support other minority groups
- Revising Faculty vision, mission and values statements and five-year strategic planning to include EDI concepts in consultation with student and faculty ambassadors
- Reinforcing the concepts of anti-racism and cultural competency in the current curriculum
- Engaging in outreach and community services for the Black and Indigenous communities
- Mentoring young researchers from the Black community and other minority groups to promote their integration and achievements in academia
