Admission Requirements

  1. The following categories of candidates are welcome to apply for admission to the PhD in Oral Health Sciences program:
    • Candidates who completed a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., health sciences, social sciences, engineering, etc.) with a CGPA of 3.2 or higher.
    • Candidates currently enrolled in the MSc Dental Sciences (Thesis) program at McGill who excel in coursework (CGPA of 3.5 or higher) and who engage in promising research. These candidates may be invited to apply to the PhD program via the fast-track path after only 1 year of Master’s level studies. Please consult Fast-Tracking to the PhD in Oral Health Sciences Program for more information.
    • Academically exceptional candidates who completed a Bachelor’s degree (BSc or a DMD/DDS) with a CGPA of 3.5 or higher and have strong research experience, including a publication record. These candidates may be accepted directly into the PhD program
  2. A supervisor must have agreed to work with the applicant by the application deadline. Applicants who have not found a supervisor and uploaded the PDF icon confirmation_of_supervision_funding_phd_feb_2024.pdf to the admissions platform by the application deadline will not be considered for admission. Applicants are strongly encouraged to find a supervisor who is interested in supervising them before submitting their applications via McGill’s admissions platform. Please consult the Profiles page for a list of potential supervisors. However, the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences understands that students may not always be able to find a supervisor on their own. If an applicant has not been able to identify a supervisor, they are invited to submit their completed application as soon possible after the application cycle opens (see Apply Now for more information). The name or names of supervisors the applicant would like to work with should be included. Supervisors are able to review submitted applications and may contact students with similar research interests.
  3. Applicants must follow standard Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) application procedures.
  4. Applicants whose previous studies were not completed in English must submit proof of English language proficiency. See McGill’s language proficiency requirements for more information. Please allow for 5-7 days processing time following submission of your proof of English language proficiency for your application checklist to be updated. Kindly include this in your application timeline calculation.
