Introducing the Desautels Graduate Management Challenge

Coming from all four corners of the world, our MBA candidates bring a unique set of experiences, which contribute to the diversity of our hand-picked cohort. Today, in the Desautels MBA blog, we profile the annual case competition - the Desautels Graduate Management Challenge.

Over the last year, the MBA student-led club called the McGill Case Competition Association (MCCA) worked towards bringing back a case competition to McGill University with the aim of gathering top-tier MBA students to crack a live business case, expand their network, and to experience the truly unique Canadian city that Montreal is.

This competition, the Desautels Graduate Management Challenge, is the revitalization of an old case competition organized by the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, and will bring the world’s best business students together with industry leaders to develop innovative integrated solutions for real world business problems.

The event will take place on March 9th and 10th, 2018 and will be sponsored by Aimia Inc. Aimia Inc. is a data-driven marketing and loyalty analytics company based in Montreal. They provide their clients with the customer insights they need to make smarter business decisions and build relevant, rewarding, and long-term one-to-one relationships, evolving the value exchange to the mutual benefit of both their clients and consumers around the world.

The case competition will focus on Aeroplan, one of Aimia’s Canadian flagship coalition loyalty programs. With a community of five-million members strong, Aeroplan now has 75 world class partners representing more than 150 brands in the financial, retail, and travel sectors, and more than 120 online retail partners via the Aeroplan eStore.

Teams of four will participate in this case competition. At least half the team must be in the first year of their MBA program. Cases will be provided in advance, and presentations must be submitted before midnight EST on Thursday, March 8th, 2018. Presentations will be 15 minutes long, with 7 minutes for Q&A from the judges.
