Looking back at the MBA World Summit 2017

Coming from all four corners of the world, our MBA candidates bring a unique set of experiences, which contribute to the diversity of our hand-picked cohort. Today, in the Desautels MBA blog, we interviewed Parul Chawla (MBA’18).

My name is Parul Chawla and I was recently selected, from almost 3,000 applicants worldwide, as 1 of the 100 most inspiring MBA students to be part of the MBA World Summit 2017, held in Berlin, Germany.

The application process involved a series of questions regarding my aspirations, career trajectory, and why I am a suitable candidate. The second round was an asynchronous video interview, where I got two minutes of preparation time and two minutes to answer each question.

Being the only candidate selected from our MBA cohort, I was honoured to represent McGill on a global platform. This was an amazing accomplishment and allowed me to establish an international network and share my views and experiences with other aspiring MBA students around the globe.

The theme of the Summit was positive innovation and progress and brought together students from varied disciplines in a collaborative and creative atmosphere to discuss and share their knowledge. MBAs and alumni also participated in social expeditions, learning about local culture and taking on international projects, finding solutions to global problems.

I personally had the opportunity of visiting Roland Berger’s offices in Berlin and worked on finding solutions to problems faced by insurance companies in the healthcare tech sector. In addition to this, each year there is a Big Idea Lounge, where aspiring entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to pitch their ideas.

Overall, the MBA World Summit is an amazing, unparalleled experience. I am humbled that I was selected to be part of such a distinguished cohort. I will definitely be presenting at future Summits. I am also thankful to the McGill Desautels MBA Program that made this all possible.

I will be presenting on how to apply to the Summit for 2018, so make sure you do not miss that session! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at any time! To my friends and alum from the Summit: See you in Cape Town in 2018!
