Aaron Bradley is a Knowledge Graph Strategist at Electronic Arts (EA) in Vancouver, BC. His background in libraries, web design and search engine optimization has allowed him to take a pragmatic approach to linked data technologies in his ongoing efforts to understand the potential of knowledge graphs and their application in solving real-life data challenges. While his work at EA is currently focused on constructing connected content ecosystems his interest in knowledge graphs is wide-ranging, and he is part of a community of practice that includes professionals from many different domains of knowledge and industry sectors.

Abstract

The journey of food from a farmer’s field to a diner’s table implicates many different domains of knowledge: agriculture, climate science, nutrition, food production, supply chain management and more. The vast amount of information available in each of these domains often exists in silos that makes it difficult to derive insights by combining disparate but related data points. In recent years, however, the development of knowledge graphs has provided a mechanism by which we can better make sense of and meaningfully connect seemingly siloed data. In this talk, Aaron will provide a brief introduction to knowledge graphs and their facilitating technologies, followed by a survey of different linked data initiatives in the agri-food domain. From digital twins in farming, to food supply chain management, to agricultural chat bots, the connective power of semantic technologies is opening up exciting new avenues for process improvement, increased production and innovation in the agri-food sector.

Chair: Professor Laurette Dubé (Scientific Director of MCCHE)
Co-Chair & Moderator: John G. Keogh (Professor of Practice, MCCHE; Founder, Shantalla Inc.))
Special Panel: A panel will follow with scientists and action leaders to advance convergence science and innovation at the food, health, medicine and healthcare interfaces for addressing challenge and possibilities afforded by open-sciences in accelerating world-scale transformation toward sustainable prosperity. Discussion will also explore how digital transformation of science, business and society can accelerate the bridging of seemingly incompatible commons and value-capture logics, capabilities, processes and impacts.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The Convergent Innovation Webinar Series features cutting edge science, technology and innovation in agriculture, food, environment, education, medicine and other domains of everyday life where grand challenges lie at the convergence of health and economics. Powered by data science, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies, this disciplinary knowledge bridges with behavioural, social, humanities, business, economics, social, engineering, and complexity sciences to accelerate real-world solution at scale, be it in digital or physical contexts. Initiated in the agri-food domain, the series is now encompassing other grand challenges facing modern and traditional economies and societies, such as ensuring lifelong wellness and resilience at both the individual and population levels.
