MBAs return home after experience of a lifetime in Dubai

Published: 15 February 2019

MBA students: Tegan Boaler, Jessica Erdman, Aakash Gopalakrishnan, Robson Lazzarotto, and Duy Nguyen were recently in Dubai to participate in the World Government Summit 2019 Global Universities Challenge – an experience that was transformative in many ways.

The World Government Summit 2019 Global Universities Challenge in Dubai, hosted by the UAE Government, brought together 19 top business and public policy schools to share five-minute pitches in front of a judging panel comprised of business and government leaders.

The team was asked to pitch a ten-year strategic plan for rebuilding a fictitious country recovering from civil conflict, with a focus on innovation, application of technologies and the role of government. Along the way, Desautels MBA students had the opportunity to hear from world leaders - including country presidents and Nobel laureates - on the collective challenges facing humanity today.

According to Tegan Boaler, “Representing McGill and Canada at the Universities Challenge was an honour and great learning experience, as students were asked to be part of the debate on the role of the public and private sectors, and how they can step up to meet these challenges.”
