In November 2018, students enrolled in the Masters of Management in Finance (MMF) program travelled to New York City to witness firsthand how today’s financial sector operates in a booming metropolis.

Over the span of two days and thanks to McGill’s extensive alumni network, students met with 12 distinct financial organizations that operate across a variety of areas, such as asset management, real estate, risk management, and private equity.

For MMF student Pierre-Louis Patault, the experience enlightened him to “the very real possibility of one day working on Wall Street, as well as the many ways in which [he] can apply the knowledge gained in class and at Desautels Capital Management.”

Similarly, halfway through the MMF program, Maud de Witte felt that she could already grasp the topics covered at each visit and could express an educated opinion during her exchanges with experts. She adds, “Every host that we met with works in a fast-paced, time-sensitive role. The fact that they took time to have meaningful discussions with us is a true testament to the strength of McGill’s alumni network.”

From an organizational perspective, the experience was equally rewarding. Harsha Rajamani (BCom’06), Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, views the MMF trip as “an important part of rounding out the educational experience at McGill,” sharing that “it’s always such a privilege to have the opportunity to host and interact with the next generation of grads.”

For John Bargelletti (BA’95), Director at Wafra, while “2018 was the first time [they have] welcomed a group from McGill University to [their] headquarters, [they] hope to be able to turn the finance field trip into an annual event.”
