Since the 1980s we have heard much about ‘leadership’; its impact on organizations and being a valued and rare quality. Countless numbers of books, articles, research projects, seminars and papers have been devoted to this subject. A Google search of the term leadership will yield 147 million hits. Must be important!

Desautels Teaching Awards 2014

Professors Ruthanne Huising and Phil Levy have been selected as recipients of the 2013-14 Desautels Faculty Teaching Awards for Undergraduate and Graduate teaching respectively.  

The selections were made by a group chaired by Professor Yalovsky and included student representatives of the BCom and MBA programs who brought forward nominations from their peers. The awards will be presented at the May 30th convocation ceremony.

CALGARY – Katia Clement-Heydra, a hockey player from McGill University, is among eight finalists announced by Canadian Interuniversity Sport and the national law firm of Borden Ladner Gervais for the 22nd annual BLG Awards, which were established in 1993 to recognize the top female and male athletes from universities affiliated with CIS.

On March 11, Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder Reddit, paid a visit to the Desautels Faculty of Management during one of the last stops of his North American tour to promote his book, “Without Their Permission.” The book describes how he started the front page of the internet from scratch with his partner Steve Huffman. “Everyone has great ideas. Mintzberg On Why You Need To View A Company As 'A Community Of Human Beings'

“I’m a human being, not a human resource”. Is something I have heard my colleague Henry Mintzberg say a number of times. It really seems to resonate with people. Recently Henry published on his website an e-pamphlet called Rebalancing Society. In it he argues that society rests on three key pillars: government, business and what he calls plural society. Henry believes that business today in the West has too much power and we need more of the plural society.
