The world is consciousness according to IMHL alumnus

According to a piece co-authored by Anoop Kumar (IMHL’15), the matter that comprises the world around us can be boiled down to our consciousness manifest.

More than an amalgamation of atoms or particles, the authors maintain that our experience of the world is actually an experience of consciousness, and that our education system has the responsibility to address these concepts in the classroom.

Suburban hospital’s new radiology room a real boon to local patients

The Director of Lakeshore General Hospital’s medical imaging department, Doctor Fadi Aris (IMHL’18), is upbeat about his hospital’s new multifunction radiology room. The $2 million installation will free west Island patients from the need to commute to a downtown hospital for certain services. As the West Island population ages, having access to immediate, local treatment becomes even more important.

Affordable water purification arrives in India

There are many parts of India where access to clean drinking water is a constant stressor. Now, a product invented by Desautels alumna Dr. Padma Venkat (IMHL’14) and funded in part by a $100,000 Grand Challenges Canada grant promises to alleviate the pressure on regions with little access to clean drinking water. After extensive field testing and design refinements, the Tamras device is ready for prime time.

A refreshing take on healthcare

Dr. Anoop Kumar (IMHL’15) has published a new book, Michelanglo’s Medicine: how redefining the human body will transform health and healthcare. The book offers a refreshing look at the human body not just as a bunch of organs, but rather as “a masterpiece, waiting to be discovered.” Dr. Kumar proposes a new approach based on his experiences as an ER doctor, as well as the eastern philosophies he grew up with.

McGill University named on list of 150 most international schools

McGill and four other Canadian universities placed in the top 50 on Time Higher Education’s The World’s Most International Universities list for 2017. The rankings heavily favour schools with a tendency to ignore borders when setting up research collaborations and to have large populations of foreign staff and students.

Professor Henry Mintzberg Awarded Honorary Doctorate

Professor Henry Mintzberg was conferred the honorary degree of "Doctor Oeconomiae Honoris Causa" from the University of Economics, Prague on November 11, 2016. The award recognizes Professor Mintzberg’s influence as a leading thinker in the field of Management, as well as the far-reaching impact of his work.

Ferring Canada's donation to have lasting impact on Desautels Faculty of Management

Ferring Canada, a subsidiary of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, has contributed a $2-million dollar donation to the Faculties of Management and Medicine at McGill University, which will create new fellowships for graduate students working in the domains of health sciences and health management and leadership.
