In the article, "L’art urbain à l’école James Lyng," Justine Gravel writes about the new mural covering the school's exterior walls.

In 2015 DISE embarked on a program to support the transformation of James Lyng High into the first urban arts school in Canada, with the goals of engaging students and improving success rates. The partnership grant, "Building partnership synergy between school, university, and community artists", is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), led by DISE Prof. Bronwen Low, and supported by DISE Profs. Mindy Carter, Claudia Mitchell and Elizabeth Wood.
