Dr. Talwar winner of NAGS' 2018 Graduate Teaching Award (Doctoral-level)

Professor Victoria Talwar has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS) Graduate Teaching Award (Doctoral-level).

Each year NAGS recognizes the contributions of three faculty members to graduate education. Two awards are for excellence in teaching and the third award is for excellence in mentoring.

The Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS) is one of four regional affiliates of the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS). Founded in 1975, NAGS draws institutional membership from the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, D.C., and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

Dr. Victoria Talwar is a professor with our Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology. She is a Canada Research Chair, Tier II, in Forensic Developmental Psychology, and an associate member of the Faculty of Education's Institute for Human Development and Well-Being (IHDW). As the founder and director of the Talwar Research Team, she has been working in the area of developmental psychology for over fifteen years with an emphasis on social-cognitive development. Her research interests include children’s verbal deception, children’s moral development, theory-of-mind understanding and behaviour; children’s expressive display rule knowledge and behaviour. In addition, she has investigated issues related to child witness testimony including child witness credibility and competence, lie detection and jury decision making. She is also interested in the influence of cross-cultural factors and attitudes to lying behaviour. Recently, her research interests include children’s social interactions in cyberspace as well as the role of spirituality in children’s social development.
