Statement on the International Day of Education

Published: 24 January 2024

The International Day of Education (January 24) is celebrated annually as a day dedicated to highlighting the crucial role educators play in inspiring new generations and in healing our world. Education is of utmost importance for the development of both individuals and societies. It is an integral part of shaping one’s character and strengths, fostering respect for the rights of others, and instilling a desire for knowledge and excellence.

At McGill’s Faculty of Education, our focus is empowering learners with the necessary knowledge, values, attitudes, and skills to become global ambassadors for positive change. Our instructors, researchers, and students immerse themselves in interdisciplinary work that propels a vast array of fields, such as teaching innovation, sustainability and social change, mental health resilience, as well as physical and health education, to name a few.

Today, we recognize that making our world a better place is only possible because of efforts that are rooted in education and we applaud the many educators, connectors, mentors, and leaders who are trailblazers for a promising tomorrow.
