Steven Shaw speaks to Quartz: "'Sweet,' 'Petite,' 'Has a great smile': The alarming phrases still used in recommendation letters for women"

Professor Steven R. Shaw, of our Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, is featured in a recent article by Quartz at Work's Lila MacLellan, published February 13 and titled "'Sweet,' 'Petite,' 'Has a great smile': The alarming phrases still used in recommendation letters for women". 

Professor Shaw recently tweeted about the gendered nature of some letters of recommendation he had received. The tweet has garnered 285 comments and over 3,000 shares at the time of this writing.

Steven Shaw is associate professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University in Montreal. At McGill University he is director of the Resilience, Pediatric Psychology and Neurogenetic Connections Laboratory and co-director of the Developmental Research Laboratory. Dr. Shaw is currently the Director of the Applied Child Psychology graduate program.
