Visiting Scholar

The Bieler School of Environment invites applications from tenured professors who would like to spend a minimum of 4 months of their sabbatical at McGill University’s Bieler School of Environment (BSE). The goal of this award is to promote BSE collaborations with outstanding scholars of international stature in transdisciplinary environmental research.

The Scholar will receive an honorarium (Canadian) per month spent at the BSE, and will be provided with an office, computer, email, internet and library connections, as well as limited administrative support.

The Scholar will be expected to:

  • Initiate or further develop collaborative, interdisciplinary environmental research with Jointly Appointed Faculty (https://bit.ly/3TMrGJr)and/or Associate Members of the BSE (https://bit.ly/3Jy00Dk);

  • Give a research seminar on each of the two McGill campuses;

  • Give a public lecture;

  • Be present full-time at McGill's BSE at a minimum of 4 months of their sabbatical during the academic terms of Fall and/or Winter.

  • Acknowledge the Bieler School of Environment as the formal affiliation during the tenure of the award, and in publications that result from work conducted during the tenure of the award. 

  • The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the academic life of the School.

Application should include:

A cover letter that indicates the planned research activities to be undertaken, the benefits that are likely to arise for the applicant and for the Bieler School of Environment;

The proposed duration and starting date;

An up-to-date CV;

An example of titles for a research seminar and a public lecture;

A nomination letter from one or more BSE colleagues with whom the research collaboration will occur.
