Bieler Undergraduate Research Awards (BURA)

Professors:

BURAs are designed for McGill students majoring in the Bieler School of Environment’s (BSE) undergraduate program to engage in 15 weeks of full-time research and development activity for the summer term under the supervision of a McGill faculty member, to gain research experience in an exciting academic setting while receiving financial support of $8,700.

Students MUST be registered as a returning student in the fall.

Value: $8,700

$6,500 is paid from BSE and a $2,200 supervisor contribution must be paid directly to the student from the professors research funding from any source and FUND information must be included in the application form.

Note: This contribution is waived for supervisors who are BSE full time faculty lecturers.

Professors: Please submit project proposals for consideration below.

Projects that do not have a student named by the supervisor will be shared with BSE students to apply to the project.

Supervisor Project Submission   DEADLINE: Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Apply Here

Students:  If you have already been in touch with a BSE faculty member or a BSE Associate Member and they have agreed to support your project for the BURAs, the faculty member is required to submit the proposal and agree to supervise the project for the 16 week summer term (please provide them with your CV and unofficial transcript).

Students are allowed to take a maximum of one course (4 credits) during the BURA period, but permission cannot be presumed. This requires a written plan that estimates lost time and a strategy to make it up; and approval from the Supervisor, Department/School, and Faculty. Additional flexibility may apply in exceptional cases, such as required courses that are only offered in the summer.
