My Day @ McGill

In early April, over 160 elementary school students become McGill students for a day!

These students, from the Lester B. Pearson School BoardEnglish Montreal School Board and the Centre Communidée, attend McGill University for workshops and activities as part of the annual My Day @ McGill, which takes place over two days.

This unique initiative is part of a partnership between SEDE and the school boards, encouraging academic engagement and acting as a bridge between McGill and the larger Montréal community. The students from Lester B. Pearson school board are already part of Homework Zone, an after-school mentorship program connecting McGill students with elementary-aged students in underrepresented neighbourhoods of Montréal.

Land Acknowledgment

Map of Montreal

McGill University is situated on the traditional territory of the Kanien’keha:ka, a place which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst nations. We recognize and respects the Kanien’keha:ka as the traditional custodians of the lands and waters on which we meet today.*

Recognizing the history of where you stand is important, and becoming increasingly common practice when hosting events and activities across Canada.

Here are a few tips to remember if you want to make a land acknowledgment before a class presentation, in a written document, or when hosting an event.
