The McGill University Department of Family Medicine and the St. James Literary Society are pleased to present the Dr. Hirsh Rosenfeld Annual Distinguished Public Lecture in Family Medicine with guest speaker Sister Monique Bourget

Humanizing Medicine: Lessons Learned from a Nun’s Journey from McGill to Building Family Medicine in São Paulo, Brazil by Sr. Monique Bourget

In this talk, Sr. Monique Bourget will explore her journey, from her medical training at McGill University, to her work in São Paulo, Brazil, where she developed community-based family health programs and is currently the Medical Director of Santa Marcelina Hospital. She will share her experiences in family medicine, how she fit that in with her calling and the work she is currently doing. This public lecture will allow Sr. Monique to express her dedication and passion that will provide inspiration and hope for patients and families here in Montreal.

Sr. Monique Bourget is a Canadian and McGill graduate of 1992 in Family Medicine, with a Masters in Epidemiology. She immigrated to Brazil and is a sister of the Santa Marcelina Order. She is the Director of the Santa Marcelina Primary Health Care network since 1996 and of a tertiary care teaching hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. She is a member of the commission that founded the Santa Marcelina Medical School and a teacher of first year medical students. Sr. Monique Bourget is the first family medicine physician certified as a specialist in Brazil and is a member of the Brazilian Family Medicine Society.
