We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lynn McLauchlin as the new Associate Director for Assessment and Evaluation for McGill University’s Family Medicine Residency Program, who has been in this position since November 1, 2018.

Dr. McLauchlin earned her MDCM degree from McGill and completed her residency program in Family Medicine at Dalhousie University. She has practiced in New Brunswick and Manitoba and for the last 23 years, at St. Mary’s Hospital Center in Montreal.

In her new role, Dr. McLauchlin will work closely with the Postgraduate Program Director, the Associate Program Director, the Site Residency directors, the Enhanced Skills Program Director and the Enhanced Skills directors to ensure the continued improvement of the competency-based curriculum.

She will oversee the development of benchmarks and new strategies for assessing competency and assessment.

“Assessment is a key function of the residency program in helping residents develop to their full potential as skilled physicians across all the dimensions of our roles as family physicians. I am interested in bringing my experience to bear on the challenge of continuing to develop and monitor tools and processes to enhance assessment,” she explains.

Dr. McLauchlin has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine since 1995. In addition to her experience as a clinical teacher in family medicine, she served for eight years as Residency Site Director at St. Mary’s and in that capacity served on the Postgraduate Education Committee. Dr. McLauchlin was named to the Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence in 2003 and received the Ken Marshall Award for Excellence in Teaching from the St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency Program in 2010.

Dr. McLauchlin’s expertise, both as a physician and an educator, will greatly contribute to the Department’s mission of academic excellence and innovation in teaching, research and care.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. McLauchlin and in wishing her the utmost success in her new role!
