Mission, Vision, and Core Values

The mission of the FEMR is to provide the research community at McGill University and beyond with a platform for the characterization of biological matter, soft and beam-sensitive materials, and other advanced materials at the highest possible resolution. This philosophy enables scientific discoveries that have the most significant impact on Canadians' economy, health, and quality of life.

To achieve this mission, the goals of the FEMR are to:

  1. Provide a unique open-access platform for the characterization of biological matter, soft and beam-sensitive materials, and other advanced materials using electron microscopy to accelerate scientific discoveries and enable internationally competitive research programs.
  2. Develop new techniques using state-of-the-art infrastructure to push the resolution limits and capabilities of electron microscopy.
  3. Build expertise in electron microscopy in Canada, enabling others to become independent users and opening this technology to a broader audience.
