MÉDAILLE D'OR DU MINISTÈRE DE L'AGRICULTURE, DES PÊCHERIES ET DE L'ALIMENTATION DU QUÉBEC

The Minister offers a gold medal annually to the Farm Management and Technology student ranking first in the graduating class. Congratulations to 2020 winner, Lynnette Klein Boonschate!

 

In-course awards (final year)

The FCC Excellence Award program aims to recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence and a passion for agriculture while completing post-secondary studies leading towards a college or university diploma in agriculture. They are awarded in the spring.

FCC BUSINESS PLANNING EXCELLENCE AWARD

Two (2) excellence awards valued at $500 will be given to students who demonstrate excellence in the Enterprise Management 3 course. Congratulations to the 2020 winners, Marie-France Bourbonnais-Gareau and Thomas Klaassen.

FCC SPIRIT OF AGRICULTURE EXCELLENCE AWARD

Two (2) excellence awards valued at $500 will be given to students who demonstrate their enthusiasm and passion for the agricultural industry throughout their studies. Congratulations to the 2020 winners, David Billette and Marc Vermeulen.

NATIONAL BANK ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT INNOVATION AWARD

Through this award, the National Bank of Canada seeks to recognize future farmers who have shown entrepreneurship and vision in developing their Enterprise Management Plan. The award recipient will be a student who has clearly demonstrated innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and financial management. This award is valued at $500. Congratulations to the 2020 winner, Lynnette Klein Boonschate.

CIAQ PRIZE

Four prizes of $250 will be given to students annually in the FMT program who have successfully completed one of the following second-year courses: Beef and Sheep Management, Dairy Replacement Management, or Dairy Performance Management. CIAQ wants to recognize students' interest in animal production and encourage them to continue their studies. It is also a way to support their current and future customers and inform students about career opportunities. The prizes will be drawn randomly in Year 3 during the fall semester. Congratulations to Morgan Passmore, Stacey Godin, Sara Bohemen, Mikaël Walaszczyk, Annakah Drew, and Mariel Lamarche the 2020 winners!

In-course award (Year 1)

Bourses de promotion des programmes d'études menant aux professions priorisées par la CPMT

In 2020, six Year 1 students received the Bourses de promotion des programmes d'études menant aux professions priorisées par la CPMT (bursaries to promote programs leading to professions prioritized by the CPMT). These bursaries are provided by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail (CPMT) as $500 each upon being randomly selected (in order to be eligible for the draw students must have passed all their first semester courses), and if the selected students complete their FMT diploma they will receive an additional $1,200 each. This program will continue for a 5-year period.
The 2020 winners were: Ethan Booker, Laurie Campeau, Justin Lauzon, Maddie Nadeau, James Vermeulen, and Gabriel Vinet.

 

FMT Awards Ceremony prizes and awards (all years)

The following awards and bursaries are given out each November during the FMT Awards Night in late November. Students should complete an application form in October to provide additional information about extra-curricular activities which will be taking into account for these awards. Please read the criteria carefully before completing an application. Check your emails for details on the submission process.

ASSOCIATION DES PRODUCTEURS MARAÎCHERS DU QUÉBEC BURSARY

Value: varies. On an annual basis, one bursary is awarded to a student registered in the third year of the Farm Management Program. The award recipient is selected based upon their enthusiasm and achievement in the field of horticultural studies, their academic standing, and financial need.
2020 winner: Lydia Roy.

DUNCAN SUTHERLAND MEMORIAL BURSARY

Value: varies. In honour and memory of Duncan Sutherland, who was a student at Macdonald Campus of McGill University from 1995 until his accidental death in 1998. Awarded to a student in the Farm Management and Technology Program on the basis of aptitude and interest in agriculture, and financial need.
2020 winner: Katelyn Lacasse.

EDNA L. SMITH MEMORIAL BURSARY

Value: varies. Presented by the Quebec Women's Institute to a student entering in the Second year of the Farm Management and Technology Program, who: (1) is a professional farmer's son or daughter from the Province of Québec, (2) has spent at least one season (seed time to harvest) in his or her parents employ on the farm, (3) intends to return on his or her parents farm for at least one year on completion of the course or to manage his or her own farm, (4) and who, if more than one candidate meets the above three requirements, takes the highest proficiency in agricultural subjects in the first year or, if he or she is the only candidate, has maintained satisfactory standing.
2020 winner: Fiona Kaiser​​​​​​.

ELLIN BEIT-SPEYER SCHOLARSHIP

Value: varies. Scholarship from a fund established by Miss Ellin Beit-Speyer of Springmont Farm, Massawippi, Quebec, to be awarded to a student enrolled in the second year of the Farm Management and Technology Program, who has high academic standing and shows a keen interest in dairying or a dairy related subject. Preference is given to students from the Eastern Townships of Quebec. 
2020 winner: Justin Lauzon.

FONDATION AGRIA AWARD

Value: varies. Sponsored by the Fondation Agria to a third year Farm Management and Technology student in recognition of excellence in the field of farm management. Selection by staff in the Farm Management and Technology Program will be based on financial need and performance in economics courses and placement experiences.
2020 winner: Mark Ruiter.

FONDATION JEFO AWARDS

Two Prizes are awarded to 3rd year students in the Farm Management and Technology program on the basis of high academic achievement in animal science courses. Preference will be given to students who intend to pursue an undergraduate degree in agriculture.
2020 winners: Sara Bohemen & Jeremy Chevalley.

G.T. ROBERTSON PRIZE

Value: varies. A prize established through a gift from Grace T. Girvin-Robertson, long time lecturer in the Microbiology Department. Awarded to a student in any year of the Farm Management and Technology Program who has shown enthusiasm for and achievement in all areas of the program. The value is determined from the income from the gift.
2020 winner: Rami Sader.

JAMES HOUSTON MEMORIAL PRIZE

Value: varies. An award established by the family and friends of the late James H. Houston who was born and raised on the Macdonald College Farm. After graduating from the Diploma Program in 1936, he worked for 42 years serving the College farm in many capacities including manager. Mr. Houston had an abiding interest in all aspects of agricultural production and the improvement of established animal breeds. Awarded annually to one or more students in the Farm Management and Technology Program who, after one year of study have demonstrated academic excellence, a keen interest in all aspects of farming and participated in the Judging Competition or related activities. The amount of the prize is determined by the annual income from the endowment.
2020 winner: Laurie Campeau.

LA FINANCIÈRE AGRICOLE DU QUÉBEC PRIZE

Value: varies. Awarded to a student in second year of the Farm Management and Technology Program who has shown the greatest improvement in academic achievement since final year full time high school studies (provincial marks). Awarded by the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Scholarships Committee upon a recommendation of the Director.
2020 winner: Zachery Christie.​​​​​​​

LA FINANCIÈRE AGRICOLE DU QUÉBEC PRIZE

Value: varies. Awarded to a student in third year of the Farm Management and Technology Program who has demonstrated a marked interest in agricultural production and has been involved in activities related to the community. Awarded by the Scholarships Committee, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Scholarships Committee upon a recommendation of the Director.
2020 winner: Morgan Passmore.​​​​​​​

McDONELL MEMORIAL AWARD

Value: varies. Established in 2001 by Michael Read, B.A, 1971 in honour of the late Kevin McDonell (Dip Ag. 1982) and the late Keith McDonell (Dip Ag. 1989). The brothers are remembered for their hard work and enthusiasm in their studies at Macdonald Campus as well as on their family farm in Lancaster, Ontario. Awarded on the basis of involvement in community service, athletics, and demonstrated financial need to a Farm Management and Technology student. Preference will be given to students who are working on or plan to return to a family farm in Eastern Ontario or Western Quebec.
2020 winners: Gabriel Vinet & Kelsey Edwards.​​​​​​​

    PAUL ADAM MEMORIAL AWARD

    This award was established in memory of Paul Adam, by his friends and family, to recognize individuals who will be pursuing careers in production agriculture. It is awarded on the basis of interest in dairy production, soil stewardship and financial need. Preference will be given to students from Eastern Ontario or Western Quebec.
    2020 winners: Janine Spichtig & Sophie Oeschger.​​​​​​​

    "SPIRIT OF AGRICULTURE" HAUT-SAINT-LAURENT SYNDICATE, UNION DES PRODUCTEURS AGRICOLES BURSARIES

    Value: varies. Established in 2002, these two bursaries are awarded to students in the Farm Management and Technology Program who have shown a keen enthusiasm for a future in agriculture and possess good citizenship qualities. Preference is given to students from the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC.
    2020 winners: Adele Bryson & Christina Knox.​​​​​​​

    "SPIRIT OF AGRICULTURE"  VAUDREUIL-SOULANGES SYNDICATE, UNION DES PRODUCTEURS AGRICOLES BURSARIES 

    Value: varies. Established in 2013 these two bursaries are awarded to students in the Farm Management and Technology Program who have shown a keen enthusiasm for a future in agriculture and possess good citizenship qualities.  Preference given to students from the MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
    2020 winners: Jessica St-Hilaire & Félix Vaillancourt.

    STUART McDONALD MEMORIAL BURSARY

    Value: varies (2 bursaries). Established in 1982 in memory of the late Stuart McDonald, Diploma in Agriculture 1966 and B.Sc.(Agr.) 1971. Stuart was a leader in student affairs. Awarded on the basis of leadership ability, involvement in campus activities and demonstrated financial need to one or more second or third year Farm Management and Technology students.
    2020 winners: Stacey Godin & Audrey Morneau.​​​​​​​

    UNION DES PRODUCTEURS AGRICOLES BURSARY

    Value: varies. awarded to a third-year student based on academic excellence in the field of farm management. Selection by staff in the Farm Management and Technology program upon recommendation of the farm management instructor. Student will have demonstrated exemplary results in Farm Accounting and in Budgeting and Administration and will have demonstrated a sound understanding of farm management principles.
    2020 winner: Mikaël Walaszczyk.

    W. ROSS ELLIOT BURSARY

    Value: varies. Established by the Agriculture Diploma class of '55 in honour and memory of classmate W. Ross Elliot, Dip. Agr. '55. Ross Elliot is fondly remembered for his keen interest and dedication to animal husbandry and farming. He exemplified citizenship and community responsibility. Awarded by the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the Farm Management and Technology Program Director to a student who demonstrates a keen interest in animal husbandry, takes an active part in the livestock show as an organizer and participant, and is in financial need.
    2020 winner: Keesha Ness.​​​​​​​
