Annual Events

Below is a sampling of some of the larger events we run every year and/or have recently introduced. We are always running smaller events as well. To keep up to date, join our Facebook group!

Pow Wow

Our Annual Pow Wow is our largest event! It takes place in the third week of September and includes Aboriginal music and dancing, arts and crafts, information kiosks and Lacrosse demonstrations. We invite the Montreal urban Aboriginal community, McGill community, and Aboriginal youth from around the Greater Montreal area to participate! It is a full day of events and a chance to share and celebrate our culture.

Canadian Aboriginal Festival (CANAB)

Each year we take a group of students to the Canadian Aboriginal Festival to promote McGill University. The Festival, held in Toronto, Ontario, at the end of November, is North America's largest multi-disciplined Aboriginal art event.

Aboriginal Health Career Day

The university hosts this special Career Day with the aim of encouraging more Aboriginal people to consider careers in medicine, and related fields like nursing, nutrition and social work.

“Amazing Race to your Dream Career” Education Day

In 2010/11, First Peoples' House ran its first Education Day. We invited youth from 4 different schools to participate in educational workshops and a mini career fair. The day was a great success and we look forward to making it an annual event!
