The development of cerebral cortex requires complex sequential processes that have to be orchestrated. Disruptions of any steps of these organized events due to genetic and/or environmental factors lead to diverse neurological conditions.
Our lab focuses on researching the genetic causes of neurodevelopmental disorders using novel sequencing technologies. Affected individuals can have important neurologic impairments, such as motor deficits, learning delay and epilepsy. Identifying the responsible genes improves clinical care and genetic counseling, sheds light on the underlying mechanism and ultimately allows development of novel treatments and targeted approaches.
