L. D. MacLean Visiting Professor

Dr. Lloyd D. MacLean was Chairman of  the McGill Department of Surgery from 1968 to 1973, 1977 to 1982 and from 1987 to 1988. He was the Edward W. Archibald Professor, Department of Surgery, McGill University from 1987 – 1993. He was also Surgeon–in-Chief at the Royal Victoria Hospital from 1962 to 1988.

Dr. L.D. MacLean was a Professor of Surgery at McGill for more than a quarter of a century. During this time, he made significant contributions in the study of shock, peritonitis, host resistance, transplantation and extended our understanding of the effectiveness of surgery for obesity.

Dr. L.D. MacLean has authored of over 350 papers in peer reviewed journals throughout his career and has served as the first Edward Archibald Professor of Surgery, President of the America College of Surgeons and President of the American Surgical Association during his tenurship at Mcgill..

This Visiting Professor Program is designed to acknowledge Dr. L.D. MacLean’s leadership role in the promotion of excellence in academic surgery.
