Raphael Lencucha

Raphael Lencucha is an Associate Professor at McGill University in Montreal Canada. The thrust of his research has been to understand how intersectoral issues impact the pursuit of health policy. He continues to work on the topic of governance for health across topic areas like food, disability, and mental health with an emphasis on tobacco governance. Since 2012 he has been working with colleagues to investigate the economic livelihoods of tobacco farmers and the often-tenuous pursuit of alternatives to tobacco production in Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Indonesia. He has worked closely with Intergovernmental Organizations like the United Nations Development Programme and the Framework Convention Secretariat of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control where he has served as an advisor for the development of the Implementation Review Mechanism and led the development of the first toolkit for Article 17 that deals with alternatives to tobacco growing.
