**We are no longer accepting applications for the 2021 micro-research grants**

Micro-research in NCDs

The GNCDA NCD Micro-research funds are for healthcare and allied professionals, university faculty, or medical residents living in resource-limited communities who wish to conduct community-based research in the area of noncommunicable diseases at their local/home site. The applicants need to submit a scientific project which can be - at least partially - accomplished in one (1) year. Proposals must be evidence-based, feasible in the local context, justified by its potential impact and novelty in the community.

Applicants need to show support from their institution and can have a local advisor. The advisor must: (1) have expertise in the area of research, (2) be recognized and hold a leadership position in the institution or community where the project would be conducted, and (3) be able and willing to spend time assisting the project team. Having a local advisor is optional but strongly encouraged. Additionally, applicants are further encouraged to identify a McGill sponsor, a faculty member who will mediate communication between the GNCDA and local team as well as assist with research activities. This person can be contacted by the applicants prior to or after proposal submission. This is also optional.

The GNCDA highly encourages research collaboration, as such, group projects are welcome. For group projects, the application should be done by a team of at most 3 persons with at least two (2) different professional backgrounds. The proposal should clearly outline the role and tasks of each individual (ex: Co-Project team leader, coordinator, budget manager, research interviewer, translator, biostatistician etc.).

The funding provided for this competitive grant is a maximum of CAD$2,000.  The projects will be particularly assessed for their novelty, practicability, relevance to NCD control and evidence-based rationale. Competitive preference will be given to applications that actively involve the study population.

The submissions will be independently reviewed by the program grants committee. If a project is selected, the GNCDA will request information from the local institution on how the grant funds will be monitored. Grant recipients may require ethics approval from the local institution (where the project will be conducted) and/or McGill University Health Centre Review Ethics Board.

Recipients will give credit to the GNCDA on any publication arising from the work done with this grant and will be invited to share their results with the GNCDA program committee. The applicant(s) will be expected to submit a report of the micro-research to the GNCDA within six (6) months of micro-research completion. A report template will be provided.

We welcome applications from a variety of disciplines that represent the diversity of the global health field. This includes, but is not limited to, medicine, nursing, health sciences, nutrition, rehabilitation, law, social sciences, engineering, epidemiology, population and public health, and health policy. Applicants should be proficient in either French, English or both. Although the application form is developed in English, the application can be submitted in either English or French.

Please note that only one proposal submission across our grant types is allowed per applicant. This means that applicants can only make one proposal submission to either the NCD research, Micro-research and NCD Challenge grant categories. Applicants with multiple submissions will be disqualified.
