Experimental Surgery (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Experimental Surgery offered by the Department of Surgical and Interventional Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes cutting-edge and engaging learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in critical thinking, research design, and scientific communication to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features

  • The program is intended for students with excellent academic standing who wish to pursue research-focused careers in academia, the medical field, or industry;
  • Research projects are available in the various laboratories of the Department which ensure that students receive in-depth training and exposure to varied conceptual frameworks and a wide array of experimental strategies;
  • Faculty members conduct research in: injury, repair, recovery, tissue engineering, transplantation, fibrosis, cancer and stem cell biology, biomechanics, organ failure, surgical stimulation, surgical innovation, education, and evaluative/outcomes research.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
