Engaging the Media: How a Well-Timed Press Release Can Boost Attention To Research

Even though peer-reviewed articles are the holy grail of publishing, do not neglect the power of a well-crafted press release to increase your impact.  Attend this workshop to be introduced to the form, function, and style of an effective press release.

We will address the following topics:

  • how to engage mass media to disseminate research
  • how to structure a press release
  • what are some ways to identify the newsworthy aspects of research to include in a press release

You will get added benefit by bringing a copy of your existing research paper to be used during the session.

The workshop will be led by Dr. Yevgen Nazarenko, McGill postdoc, who has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, delivered numerous talks and collaborated with the McGill Media Relations Office to develop his press release.

The workshop will be held on McGill’s downtown campus on Friday, February 22nd, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Registrants will receive the workshop location in a confirmation email.
