Image Caption:
Red pine has a bristly appearance in contrast to the graceful white pine. It has two needles per bunch, these are 10-18 cm long and thicker and stiffer than white pine needles. The cones are about 5 cm long; and the bark is a reddish brown. Red pine was a popular plantation species a few decades ago in the region around Montréal, and many of these are now telephone poles.
