McGill University Collections Centre

In preparation for the Fiat Lux Library Project, access to the print collections (books and other items such as physical journals, microfilm, microfiche, etc.) from the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex will gradually be restricted to allow materials to be systematically moved to the McGill University Collections Centre (MUCC). Each floor/area will remain open until movers are working in that area. During the moving period, access to the floor will be closed. All circulating items in the McLennan Library have now been moved.

Books moved to the MUCC will be unavailable until the MUCC opens (anticipated date: June 2024). As a result, the red "Request/Hold" button for items already moved or preparing to be moved will not appear in the catalogue. However, these items can be requested from other Quebec libraries (Network Loan) and InterLibrary Loan. If the "Request/Hold" button does not appear, McGill users can continue to borrow books in the following ways:

  1. Existing e-book options
  2. Network loan / Interlibrary Loans through Sofia (McGill catalogue)
  3. Purchases /acquisitions (specific cases)
  4. Book retrieval via the Library Pickup Service form*
  5. For McGill faculty only: Access to stacks during floor closure (by appointment) *

*Access to items will depend on the stage of the move at the time of the request.

Redpath 3rd Floor

Redpath 3rd Floor closed March 20, 2024 and will be closed for an estimated period of 5-6 days. This consists of items in the Blackader-Lauterman Collection of Architecture and Art. Items can still be requested via the Library Pickup Service Form and via Network and Interlibrary Loan. More information can be found on this announcement.

To check on the status of the move and for more details, please navigate to the Collections Centre website.

Please note that:

  • The dates outlined above are tentative and dependent on the timely completion of related activities and subject to change.
  • The Hathi Trust Emergency Temporary Access Service is not available.
  • Access to material in the McGill University Archives and Rare Books and Special Collections (including the Canadian Architecture Collection) will also be significantly reduced during the Winter 2024 term. See more information here.
