LEVEL UP: TROIKA peer to peer consulting

Tuesday, October 12, 2021 15:00to16:15
 TROIKA peer to peer consulting

A fun & interactive peer coaching model integrating an activity called the TROIKA Consulting (from liberatingstructures.com).  The goal of this session is to contribute to re-energizing and supporting you - a great way to invest in yourself over the Fall Reading week!

Please note we will be using the break-out rooms for a good portion of this session & a microphone and video will allow you to more fully participate.

If you prefer to observe, please contact leadership.training [at] mcgill.ca with the subject "LEVEL UP and TROIKA as an observer" in order for us to plan accordingly.

This session is open for all students and students who have taken LEVEL UP workshops are encouraged to experience this as part of our LEVEL UP curriculum! We welcome all interested to experience this model & will give 'hall way time' after for some discussion about how to integrate this in other contexts from 16:15 to 16:30 p.m.

More about Liberating Structures:

Liberating Structures is a useful alternative way to approach and design how people work together (which can apply to group projects). It provides a menu of thirty-three Liberating Structures to replace or complement conventional practices. We will be offering some of these to the McGill Community to experimentation & research!

If you are interested in researching how to go beyond conventional structures that can be either too inhibiting (presentations, status reports and managed discussions) or too loose and disorganized (open discussions and brainstorms) to creatively engage people in shaping their own future. Our goals are to shift away from feelings of frustration, exclusion and/or failing to provide space for good ideas to emerge and germinate.

Desired outcomes:

  • Refining skills in asking for help
  • Learning to formulate problems and challenges clearly
  • Refining listening and consulting skills
  • Developing ability to work across disciplines and functional silos
  • Building trust within a group through mutual support
  • Building capacity to self-organize
  • Creating conditions for unimagined solutions to emerge
