Doctoral Internship Program

Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) is launching the Doctoral Internship Program to offer McGill’s doctoral students at the end of their degree the opportunity to learn and grow outside of academia through a 3-month remunerated internship. Applications are to be submitted online.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Doctoral Internship Program, the student must meet the following requirements:

Enrolled in a doctoral program at McGill
Registered as a full-time student at the time of application and remain registered during the internship
Be in PhD 6 or earlier
Have submitted their initial thesis before the internship start date
Not have defended their thesis before commencing the internship
If applicable, must hold appropriate work permit for internship site

Value and Duration

Students will receive up to $2,000/month during their internship, for a period of 1 to 3 months. Students who receive remuneration from the host organization may see their funding from GPS prorated accordingly.

How to Apply

Students are responsible for securing their internship. However, the GPS website offers resources to help identify potential host organizations.

Once the internship has been secured, students must complete the online application form and upload the following supporting documents:

Doctoral Internship Plan, including all required signatures
A Personal Statement (max. 1 page) from the applicant indicating why this opportunity is important for their professional development
CV of the applicant

Students will be required to complete a final report at the end of their internship.
