Request for Permission for Credit Overload

Request for Overload Policy

Students in Faculty of Education programs are expected to be registered on a full-time basis (i.e. minimum 12-15 credits per semester). Students who wish to register for more than 17 credits in a semester are permitted, provided they are not in a major field experience term and have at least a 3.0 CGPA.  Requests from students who do not have a 3.0 CGPA  will be assessed by the Internships & Student Affairs Director.

Students in a major field experience are not permitted overloads, with the exception of very special circumstances. It is assumed that students who request this type of overload demonstrate that they understand and are prepared to undertake the level of work required to be successful, both in the field and in their coursework. Requests for overload in a major field experience will be reviewed by the Director, Internships & Student Affairs Office and approved on a case-by-case basis. A follow-up meeting with ISA may be required. You will not be permitted to leave your Field Experience early nor be absent from any part of your Field Experience to attend or participate in a conflicting class, including any lectures, tutorials, midterms, or final exams.

For questions or further information about the policy or process, please contact isa.education [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Questions%20about%20Overload%20request) or visit the Internships & Student Affairs Office.
