University Withdrawal Policy
Withdrawing from all your courses in a Fall or Winter term constitutes a University withdrawal (Summer is an optional term). For questions or further information about the policy or process, please contact isa.education [at] mcgill.ca.
It is your responsibility to initiate the withdrawal process:
- Non-attendance at classes does not constitute a University withdrawal; all courses must be dropped
- Informing your course instructors does not consitute a University withdrawal; all courses must be dropped

Procedure
The procedure for University Withdrawal depends on the date of your request in relation to the University Withdrawal deadlines. You will select your situation on the form below and follow the instructions. At any time, you may contact ISA for an appointment or assistance with these options.
Impact on Student Fees
A Registration Cancellation Fee may be applied to your account, depending on when you withdraw from the University! Consult this important information from Student Accounts regarding University Withdrawals.
Your Record
- If you withdraw from all your courses on Minerva BEFORE the deadline for University Withdrawal, you will not have a record of study for this term and your student record will remain inactive. Your McGill email account will become inactive after 30 days.
- If you were granted a University Withdrawal after the deadline, your courses will be dropped by the ISA Office (if not already dropped) and your record will indicate "Withdrew from the University" and the date on which your withdrawal became effective. Your McGill email account will become inactive after 30 days.
- If you withdraw in the Fall term, you are considered withdrawn from the entire academic year and your Winter term is deleted.
Readmission
Should you wish to return to McGill in the future, please see the Faculty of Education Readmission page. Please note that students who withdrew from the University for personal health reasons will need to submit the Return to Study-Healthcare Provider Approval form.
