As part of continuous improvement, the Web Services Group will be deploying a Web Management System (WMS) update that supports a wider range of alphabets and character sets in order to display more languages and also allow emojis.
A script will be run once on every WMS site until the conversion of all sites is complete. This process takes 5–15 minutes per site. To limit disruptions, the script will run daily during off-peak hours from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. over a continuous span of up to five days.
The conversion period will begin on Monday evening November 4, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
While any individual site is being upgraded:
· There will be Read-Only access in order to protect the database integrity while still allowing end users to access information
· All users will see a notice that they cannot log in during this time
· All users who attempt to submit a form that updates the site (e.g., save a page, or submit a webform) will be presented with a notice that their changes were not saved and to try again later
· Search forms — including the main mcgill.ca Home page and the eCalendar sites — are not affected
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this update.
