If Stream (Classic) users didn't take the required actions to migrate their videos, their videos were automatically migrated to their personal OneDrive or Office 365 SharePoint site under a folder called "Stream Migrated Videos."

As part of the Microsoft 365 offering, Stream (on SharePoint) provides McGill with a secure platform for posting, sharing, and discovering video content. Stream (on SharePoint) is a powerful communication medium that can be used for purposes as diverse as distributing messages from University executives, promoting departmental programs, recording video training, etc.

Stream (on SharePoint) is an intelligent enterprise video experience that is part of Microsoft 365. It empowers you to record, upload, discover, share, and manage video like any other file. Video is like any other document. It seamlessly integrates with apps across Microsoft 365, so you get the same experience no matter where you add or engage with video content.


Who can use it

This service is for active McGill students, faculty, and staff members.


How to request & access the service

Access Microsoft Stream (on SharePoint)

Web Interface:

      1. Log into the Microsoft 365 site using your McGill Username and Password here: https://www.office.com/.  
      2. Once logged in, you will be brought to the Office 365 apps menu:

    1. Select Stream.

      If Stream is not listed, click on “Explore all Apps - >” then click on “All apps-> “listed on the top right of the following page:

       


  1. You can find the “Stream” app listed in your options. Note the apps are listed in alphabetic order. 

Mobile Devices:

  1. Go to the App store (for iOS devices) / Google Play store (for Android devices) and search for Microsoft Stream
  2. Install the app on your device.
  3. After the installation is complete, open the app.
  4. When prompted, enter your McGill Username. Next, select Organization account and enter your McGill Password.

Quick steps to upload a video

On the desired storage location, simply drag and drop your video files into the web user interface.

Note: If you drag and drop your video on Stream (on SharePoint), this will be automatically stored on your personal OneDrive.

There is no cost to use this service.


Availability

This service is available 24 X 7. Check the Microsoft 365 website for announcements of any maintenance or unexpected downtime.

Are Teams meeting recordings stored in Stream? 
Teams meeting recordings are saved in OneDrive or SharePoint.

Where are my Stream (Classic) videos?

All content on Stream Classic should have been migrated to the new platform; try to use the “Stream search” to find your video: 

If you missed our email communications regarding the Stream (Classic) content migration, your content has probably been migrated automatically to your personal OneDrive under a folder called "Stream Migrated Video." Alternately, if your video content is linked to an Office 365 group, your content has been migrated to your Office 365 group SharePoint site in the Document folder called "Stream Migrated Video."  

To find your video content on your personal OneDrive:

  1. Log into the Microsoft 365 site using your McGill Username and Password.
  2. Select OneDrive from the Office 365 apps menu:
 
  1. Go to my file and locate a folder called "Stream Migrated Videos":

 To find your video content in an Office365 group:

  1. Log into the Microsoft 365 site using your McGill Username and Password.
  2. Select SharePoint from the Office 365 apps menu: 

  

  1. Select your Office 365 group SharePoint site, then navigate to Document and look for a folder called "Stream Migrated Videos": 

 

How do I back up my videos?

Is there a limit to the number or size of videos I can upload?
Videos in Stream (on SharePoint) consume the existing file storage quota from OneDrive and SharePoint.

How does video playback work?
OneDrive and SharePoint video playback uses different playback technology depending on the video bitrate. Our Microsoft Stream player engine detects the optimal way to play the video for the best playback experience and performance. Find more information on the Stream (on SharePoint) FAQ web page.

How can I share my videos with a specific group, such as students in myCourses?
It's simple to share a video or audio file across Microsoft 365. It's just like sharing any other file. The easiest way to share Stream videos with a large group, such as students in a course, is to use the Share by using the “Copy link” to an email for myCourses content.
