Eng., Ph.D.
Affiliation: Institut de Recherche Hydro Québec - Research Scientist
Pierre Van Dyke received his engineering degree and his M.A.Sc. in 1983 and 1985, respectively, from École Polytechnique de Montréal, Canada. He completed a masters certificate in project management at Laval University, Canada in 2005 and a Ph.D. at Université de Sherbrooke, Canada in 2007. He is a registered professional engineer in the province of Québec, Canada.
After working in the field of vibrations at the Quebec Industrial Research Center (CRIQ), he joined the Hydro-Québec Research Institute (IREQ) in 1990, where he is senior research scientist. His fields of interest are galloping, aeolian vibrations, wake induced oscillations as well as conductor self-damping, fatigue, aerodynamics, and ice accretion. He has conducted many studies on a full-scale overhead test line and a laboratory test span. He also developed the Hydro-Quebec vibration damper, interphase spacer and elastomeric suspension clamps that are sold throughout the world.
He is currently convener of the CIGRE Technical Advisory Group B2.06 ‘Mechanical behaviour of conductors and fittings’ and Canadian representative of CIGRE B2 overhead lines.
He has organized or been involved in the organization of conferences related to overhead line dynamics, he has also been invited speaker and chairman, and is the author or co-author of 3 book chapters, more than 50 papers and 2 patents.
