Alejandra Barriales-Bouche holds a Licenciatura in Filología Española from the Universidad de Oviedo (1997). She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic Literatures and Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (2003). She worked as Assistant Professor of Spanish (2003-2009) and Associate Professor of Spanish (2010-2012) at Suffolk University before joining the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at McGill in 2012. She also taught at Mount Holyoke College and Concordia University.

Her main research interests are the literature of the exiles of the Spanish Civil War and Spanish Cinema. She has published articles on the poetry of Luis Cernuda, Pedro Garfias, Rafael Alberti and the autobiographical texts of Federica Montseny. She is the editor of España: ¿laberinto de exilios? (2005) and the co-editor of Zoom in, Zoom out: Crossing Borders in Contemporary European Cinema (2007).
