Tove Holmes received her Ph.D. in German Studies from the Johns Hopkins University and taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder before joining the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill in 2012. Her areas of expertise include German-language literature, culture and thought from the 18th century to the present with an emphasis on the late 18th and 19th centuries, perception, intermediality and visual studies, science and intellectual history, as well as cultural, literary, and epistemological approaches to nature and environment. She has published on “Stifter's Visual Curriculum” and presented scholarly papers exploring figurations of time, repetition, performance, and the literature and theory of archive. She is currently working on a manuscript from her dissertation Literary Images: Viewing and Visuality in German Realism, as well as another book-length study on Literary Environments.
