The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Brian F. Havel has received a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from National University of Ireland, University College Dublin.

Professor Havel joined McGill University’s Faculty of Law of McGill University in 2017 as a full professor and director of the Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL). His research focuses on issues of public and private governance in the air transport and space industries.

Prior to joining McGill Law, Professor Havel was a Distinguished Research Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he directed the International & Comparative Law Program and the International Aviation Law Institute. Before entering academia, he practised transnational corporate and antitrust litigation at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York. He has been a visiting professor of law at the University of Oxford, Leiden University, University College Dublin, McGill University, and Northwestern University.

“I’m delighted to see Professor Havel recognized in this way by his alma mater,” said Dean Robert Leckey. “As director of the IASL, he has proven a skillful steward of McGill’s global reputation as the leading institution for studying international air law and space law.”
