Three professors recognized by the Royal Society of Canada

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Adelle Blackett, Dean Robert Leckey, and Professor Stephen Smith have been honoured by the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). Professor Blackett and Professor Smith have been elected fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences and Dean Leckey has been elected a member of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.

McGill LLB Holders May Request Replacement JD Diploma

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur has granted approval for McGill to issue a replacement diploma bearing the designation Juris Doctor (JD) for graduates who received a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) prior to 1 January 2020. We had last fall announced that, from winter 2020, graduates of the Faculty of Law’s double-degree program would receive a BCL/JD.

Professor Adelle Blackett appointed to USMCA Roster

The Faculty of Law congratulates Professor Adelle Blackett on her appointment to the USMCA Annex 31-B List of Rapid Response Labor Panelists. Members of the roster have committed to being generally available to serve as panelists for disputes arising under Annex 31-B of the new Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.

Changes at the Helms of Three Research Centres

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce changes in the leadership of three research centres. Professor Richard Gold has been appointed director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP), effective 1 September 2020. He will take over from Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Moyse, who served in the role since 2011.

Professor Evan Fox-Decent has been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Cosmopolitan Law and Justice, and Professor Sébastien Jodoin has been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Human Rights and the Environment.

Academic Renewal at the Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce the appointment of three professors and a visiting scholar for the year 2020–2021. Professor Peer Zumbansen will join the Faculty as a full professor and the inaugural incumbent of the Faculty of Law’s Professorship in Business Law, starting 1 January 2021. Dr. Alicia Hinarejos and Professor Darren Rosenblum will join as full professors, effective 1 January 2021 and 1 August 2021 respectively.
