Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada: Residents of other provinces and territories


Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada are required to provide the following documentation in support of their tuition status at McGill and their application for a Quebec permanent code. Note that there are various tuition rates for Canadians, please refer to Student Accounts' fee tables for complete information.

Documents required:

  • PDF icon Canadian birth certificate OR
  • Proof of PDF icon Canadian citizenship OR
  • Proof of PDF icon Canadian permanent residency OR
  • Valid Indian status card issued by the Canadian government OR
  • Nunavik Inuit beneficiary card (or letter issued by the Makivik Society)
  • Labrador Inuit beneficiary card (or letter issued by the Nunatsiavut government)
  • Nunavut Inuit beneficiary card (or letter issued by Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.)
  • Metis citizenship card or letter issued by the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation for the Inuvialuit of the Northwest Territories

IMPORTANT: Canadian students who also have French citizenship or are part of the francophone community of Belgium, please refer to the Dual Citizens webpage.

 

Exceptionally, Independent (Special) students registered at the School of Continuing Studies must also complete a Permanent Code Data (paper) form. This form requires your handwritten signature. Once you have completed sections 2 to 8 and dated & signed the form, please send it as per the instructions on the "How to submit" tab.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Canadian passports can only be accepted for proof of Canadian status in cases where you already have a Quebec Permanent code which has been validated to us by the Ministry of Education (i.e. the perm code is visible in your Minerva account at Student>Student Accounts>View Tuition & Legal Status).
