The Provost of McGill announced in May that the 2020 Fall semester would continue on schedule, but remotely. Here are some pertinent points to know.

Applying for immigration documents, learning remotely, and beginning research in September.

Study permits and CAQ applications

  • Answers to general questions about immigration procedures
  • International students can register and follow remote instruction without a valid CAQ and study permit; HOWEVER, we urge you to apply for these documents as soon as possible. Response times are slower, but these applications are still being processed.
  • International students can complete up to 50% of their program remotely and still qualify for the Post-Graduation Work Permit.
  • If you don’t see the answer to your question, email International Student Services at internationalstudents [at] mcgill.ca.

Remote learning

  • Answers to general questions about remote learning
  • Instructors will be making coursework as accessible as possible, designing courses and evaluation formats that consider many different challenges that students face.
  • Teaching and Learning Services offers some useful resources on how to succeed when learning is remote.

Research

  • Thesis students should be in regular contact with their supervisors about beginning research and lab work. Solutions such as virtual labs and adapting work schedules to frontload work that can be done from home will be implemented.
