School of Human Nutrition Student Wins Prix Étoiles Montantes Yves-Deshaies du Réseau CMDO

Macdonald Campus student Meryem Talbo (BSc(NutrSc)'17, MSc(NutrSc)'19; pictured above on the right) has been awarded the Prix Étoiles Montantes Yves-Deshaies du Réseau CMDO, revealed during the Joint Scientifique meeting of the CMDO network and the Société Québécoise de Lipidologie, de Nutrition et de Métabolisme (SQLNM) held in February. At the event, Meryem also presented recent findings from the Canadian Registry for people with type 1 diabetes (BETTER registry).

Meryem is a registered dietitian and currently in her final year of a PhD in nutrition in McGill's School of Human Nutrition, supervised by Dr. Anne-Sophie Brazeau. Meryem's current work and research are focused on better understanding the lived experience of people with type 1 diabetes, specifically related to hypoglycemia and hypoglycemia fear. Meryem aims to generate evidence to improve availability and access to needed therapies while championing a person- and patient-centered approach to both health care and research.

Created in April 2012 by the Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), the Research network on cardiometabolic health, diabetes and obesity (Réseau CMDO) has the mission of developing research of excellence in these areas, of transmitting knowledge and to promote knowledge to promote the quality of life of Quebecers. The network's Yves-Deshaies Rising Stars Prize competition is aimed at graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Quebec. The objective of the award is to help students, whose applications could be competitive, to increase their chances of success for a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship or a Banting Postdoctoral Scholarship.
