Another Vote For The Arts: Picture Book Project

Published: 24Nov2017

NSCAD Arts Educator April Mandrona recently received $66,000 in federal funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council for her research project entitled “For Us by Us: Children’s Picture Books to Promote Solidarity and Acceptance in the Age of Refugees”. In collaboration with the MAHI Director Dr. Claudia Mitchell, and Michaelina Jakala and Elisabeth-Jane Milne of Coventry University, the project will allow children who came to Canada as refugees to develop picture books drawing from their own experiences. The project will also allow the children to develop their artistic tendencies and skills while giving voice to their stories.
