Building a Talent Pipeline for Women: A conversation with Dr. Kristin Lauter

Tuesday, October 23, 2018 17:00to18:00
Burnside Hall Room 1104, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0B9, CA

Abstract:
This open discussion, targeted at math & stats department faculty members across Montreal, is meant to discuss initiatives towards career success for women-identified students and faculty. It will highlight the importance of supporting women at all stages in their career, and steps towards improvement of their working conditions. In particular, this talk focusses on how we keep women on track to careers in math without losing them somewhere along the way; this phenomena of women disappearing as they approach higher levels of a discipline is commonly referred to as the “leaky pipeline”. Ultimately, initiatives towards gender diversity in mathematics require a “talent pipeline’’, a way to ensure conditions that will ultimately lead to the success of women-identified individuals in mathematics.
