Friday, October 12, 2018 12:00to13:00
Burnside Hall Room 1025 (Lounge), 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0B9, CA

This week, James McVittiewill talk to us aboutstatistical estimation:

Given a collection of observed random variables, can we make an inference about specific properties of our population? If so, what assumptions are we required to make about our underlying distribution in order to conduct this inference? In this talk, I will describe some procedures which depend heavily on the model assumptions and how different estimation techniques can be compared.

See you all there!

Allgraduate students are invited. As with all talks in thegraduate student seminar, this talk will be accessible to allgraduate students in math and stats. This seminar was made possible by funding from the McGill Mathematics and Statistics Department and PGSS.
