Visa Information

There is a non-refundable visa charge when you apply for your visa. For more information on visa fees and charges please visit the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website. Make sure you allow sufficient time for your student visa to be processed as it can take several months depending on the country you come from. For more information on the current visa processing times and fees, please contact your nearest Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. They will also be able to give you further information about how to apply for a student visa, and whether you will be required to undergo health checks or provide chest X-rays.

Health Insurance Information

All students are required to have OSHC as a condition of their Australian student visa. OSHC will be arranged through Allianz Global Assistance, Griffith University’s preferred provider, and included in the Offer Letter. Students will be required to pay an OSHC fee to Griffith University at the time of accepting offer. Students who are citizens of Norway and Belgium are normally exempt from paying OSHC under a mutual government arrangement.

  • For Canadian students with provincial and the SSMU, PGSS, MCSS Supplemental Health Plan – check with both provincial and ASEQ (studentcare.ca) to ensure coverage while abroad.
    • For the supplemental plan, they usually require a) the student's nomination letter in Minerva, b) the student's acceptance letter from the host.
  • For International students enrolled in the International Health Insurance plan – visit the International Student Services Health Insurance website for information about Travel.
  • For students covered under their own plans (parents, governmental organization etc) – confirm coverage with the insurance provider.
