Published: 13 September 2024

Sixty-eight McGill researchers have received grants through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), for a total federal investment of $8.8 million.

On Sept.13, the Government of Canada announced that $123.1 million in federal research funding has been awarded through 503 Insight Grants and 590 Insight Development Grants to researchers working in social sciences and humanities disciplines at institutions across Canada.

McGill was awarded 36 Insight Grants for a total of $6.7 million and 32 Insight Development Grants for a total of $2.1 million. These grants are designated for social sciences and humanities research that builds knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world. McGill researchers will also contribute to projects led by other institutions in Quebec and across Canada.

The recipients were selected based on the excellence of their research proposals, and their potential to make significant contributions to their respective fields. At McGill, the funding will help advance research on a wide range of topics related to individuals and society including pedagogical studies about trilingualism in school-aged children in Quebec, and projects focused on reducing harassment in health care settings.
