Biography: 

Dr. Erwin Schurr is a Distinguished James McGill Professor of Human Genetics and Medicine at McGill University, and the Leader of the Program on Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (http://idigh.ca). He has been Associate Director of the McGill Centre for the Study of Host Resistance (2000-2012), director of a CIHR Strategic Training Centre (2001-2008), and he frequently adjudicates and evaluates international large scale networks and centres of infectious diseases. He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Infectious Diseases and PLoS Pathogens. His main research area is the identification of host genetic factors predisposing to mycobacterial disease. His present research focuses on the genetic control of pathological inflammatory responses in leprosy (i.e. leprosy reactions), and the genetic control of resistance to infection with the tubercle bacillus in HIV-infected and HIV-free persons.
